Great way to learn

This product is amazing, far beyond my expectations of it. The best part is the audio CD's follow almost exactly along with the book. In some ways it's better than rosetta stone and others it isn't. But I would definitely recommend this over Rosetta stone just because it has course books and exercises to do. Hope this helps!! :)

It's Not a Classroom Course But Great for Self Study

Living Language courses are great for introducing grammar and vocab. The exercises in the books are helpful for reinforcing what you read and listen to.
I own the Complete German and the Complete French courses and recommend them both. If you buy them though, make sure you purchase another workbook and some vocab building books also. The exercises in the books are good, but you'll need more to keep practicing. And, can you really ever have a big enough vocabulary?

I'm half German and so is my husband. He was born and raised in Germany and is fluent in the language. Both my mom and younger sister still live there as well. So, to get to the point, having a background in the language; It's time to become fluent. FINALLY.

I really chose this program based on price, but the reviews did help a lot. It comes handy with it's own book holder. It has 3 workbooks---
Essential
Intermediate
Advanced

It has a nice sized notebook, and then a tri-fold with 9 audio discs.

The books are straight to the point, with a TON of information on each page. I have to put the books down, let the information simmer and then get back to it. There hasn't been an area where I've been like "ok this is a waste of time." I mean, I paid about $31 bucks and for the price I am on my way to a new language.

The audio discs are basic and I wish it was a bit more organized. When it comes to pronunciation and dialect, it is on point.

The online community is very basic too, but I think the little games they have really help.

Now; I'm very lucky to have many German speaking family members, because that is what is ultimately going to help me become fluent. You need to make sure whatever language you are learning, you can find someone to converse with.

If you want to learn a language, you need to jump on these programs. Just do it...now....scnhell! [hurry]

This book was listed as NEW when purchased and is missing pages 509-524 and now I can’t return it because I missed the 30 day return. Unfortunately it was not noticed right away because they had not gotten to that part of the book in class until just this week… Can’t study and now have a non-usable damaged book….

Possibly the Perfect Textbook

This book is beyond useful! I'm acing my class, and I plan on holding onto it for graduate school. There is a lot of information included in each chapter, but it isn't overwhelming. Tests for certain organisms are highlighted in their own sections. Somehow the authors managed to include nothing but helpful facts. No pointless fillers. No digging through a 50 page paragraph for one key topic. The organization is flawless.

If your professor is using a different textbook, you should consider purchasing this boo as a supplemental read.

Full Spectrum Book with Slight OSX Bent

This book covers all aspects of using Git with the Github repository.
Although the book addresses Linux and Windows, particular attention is paid to OSX users.
The book can be read cover to cover, but it is aimed primarily at Git users who periodically run
into a new situation or are interested in extending their expertise in new directions.
As such, the book is presented as a collection of 66 "techniques", ranging from the
simple to the complex. Discussion of each technique is accompanied by a concrete
example of using a Github environment that the author uses throughout the book.
The author has a lot of experience with Git, and he shares nuggets of wisdom
throughout the book, including a section near the end of the book that is dedicated to
Git best practices. At the very end of the book are appendixes containing instructions
on Git installation and GitHub account setup, heavily annotated copies of the author's
Git configuration files and a short treatise on the value of version control systems.

I recommended the book particularly for practitioners with at least
a basic understanding of Git. I read the book through from front to back and ran
into only one area of minor frustration. The book uses https as the protocol of
choice for interacting with the GitHub repository. For that reason, there was an almost
constant prompting for my user ID and password. Eventually, I took to the web in
search of a way to minimize this. I discovered a credential.helper
that could be activated to cache credentials for a user-designated period of time.
Later on, I found excellent documentation on the GitHub web site that described
how to set up an SSH agent, and I switched to that instead. This problem would not
be an issue for someone using the book primarily as a reference as the prompting
would only occur for the one or two techniques used at that point.

Overall the book is excellent, and would be a worthwhile addition to a programmer's library.

A good discussion of git practices for intermediate users.

Git In Practice is a problem/solution style book that presents solutions as numbered techniques. It is aimed at intermediate and advanced users of GIT but concedes that beginners may cope if they are willing to do a bit of extra research about each topic discussed. As well as the techniques, there is also discussion of the reasons for using version control systems and of the pros and cons of a number of possible GIT workflows for teams of programmers developing a product.

I fall into the beginner camp; I've used GIT to commit versions of my work and push them to Github mostly as backup. The book has given me a good overview of the tools that GIT provides and a growing sense of when I might use them. However, right from the start, the discussions in the book reference further techniques, flags and options that were a bit overwhelming for me as an inexperienced user. As I worked through the book, many of those concepts started falling into place but many others will only really make sense when I have more experience. If you're a beginner who would rather be supported through your initial learning about GIT, then this is probably more of a three star book for you. I am willing to give the book the benefit of the doubt - it is mostly well written with clear examples and a sensible structure - and take the blame myself for any confusion.

The book starts with the basics of adding, committing, pushing and cloning and moves steadily through to branching, merging, rebasing, logging and re-writing history. It also looks at some graphical clients like gitx. It spends a lot of time examining the output from GIT commands. I managed to follow along with most examples but wasn't always 100% sure of what was going on. The diagrams included with the text didn't always make the explanations any clearer for me, although those accompanying the sections on branching/merging workflows were helpful. The discussion of various approaches for teams was interesting for me as I work in a team of one. They've given me some ideas to play with as I start to make better use of GIT.

Overall, the book is well structured with clear, accurate writing for the main text. However, the clarity is sometimes undermined by throwaway references to more advanced concepts. I'll definitely return to the book once I've gained more experience using the basics in the wild.

Git for daily operations

This book is written in the cookbook format where there are a series of 66 techniques which are different types of situations you may want to use with Git. This is a good book for intermediate readers and to have as a reference for the various cookbook recipes (techniques), however I think it would be a little rough intro to git for complete Git novices. If you are a novice user, I have found the Atlassian Git tutorials, https://www.atlassian.com/git/tutorials/, to be a valuable resource.

I came to Git from Perforce and Subversion, where a centralized SCM was very familiar to me. Git is a decentralized SCM, although you can use it with a centralized workflow. Chapter 1 does decent job of getting a new user up and going with by a local filesystem directory under git. The one thing here that would likely only affect new Git users would the use of the Git Index/Staging Area. Traditional SCM systems don't have this buffer area between the working copy (the files you modify) and the Git datastore. Normally files go from the working copy to the SCM's datastore, but with Git they pass through the Staging Area 1st on their way to the datastore.

The real meat of the book is in Chapter 2 where we see remote use of Git and Part 2 of the book which demonstrates various techniques that most Git users will use on a daily if not often basis. One thing I think, would have been better is if the chapter on personalizing git had of been moved closer to the front of the book than the end. Seeing as the book focuses on teaching you the Git commands, it is a lot easier to type "git co -b " over "git checkout -b " by creating git aliases for some of the most common commands. If you're a command line user then you WILL type a set of git commands all the time and every key stroke saved is one less chance for carpal tunnel syndrome.

Very informative book, with lots of good info. Well worth every bit of the 3 dollar price tag. Only negative I can suggest is it would have been nice to have a little more detail on a couple things such as the making of the book covers. Maybe some links to the best places to find that type of info or something at the least. BUT..... That truly is nit picking.

Definitely a helpful book, especially when it comes to keywords. I would have liked to have seen some more organization (feel like it was more like a long email from a friend that writes erotica than an actual book). Would recommend it as a starring off point :)

Very Thorough Guide

I have read several guides now from erotica writers on how to be successful. Typically, they all focus on the same things. The difference between them comes with clarity in text. Amy's guide is that clarity. The layout and text itself are easy to read. All her tips are written in simple to understand language and she emphasizes that this is what worked for her. You take what you bring to writing and the tips that work for you. I appreciate that this guide focuses mostly on self publishing to Amazon since this is the only place I am interested in exploring. If you have to pick up one book for info about writing erotica, this is it.

Awesome book that is a must read! Worth more than its weight in gold.

I read Currency Wars, another book written by the author, a while ago. Even though I was impressed by the concept the author presented in that book, I was turned off by his writing style. In that book, the author spent chapters and chapters bragging about himself telling us how great and important he was, perhaps to establish credibility. The reader had to sift through the fluff to get to the gems of wisdom. As you probably already know, that book made the author famous and currency wars is now a widely understood and often quoted concept in mainstream media.

This book is very different in that regard. It is concise, to the point, mostly factual and the arguments that the author presents are based on sound economic principles. There is very minimal bragging by the author so hardly any fluff. I was able to finish the book within a weekend reading off an on during the day. I am utterly impressed by the author. He is not only knowledgeable but also a genius who can use his knowledge to visualize the future. His arguments are extremely sound. It is amazing how he explains complex economic concepts in simple language for the regular reader. Most readers will not even realize that he is using Masters or PHD level economic concepts to explain what is happening and what will happen. I have a master's in economics from a top school in the nation so I understand the concepts he is using to arrive at certain conclusions.

Another reason I was impressed by this great man is his acknowledgement that he may be wrong. That is the mark of a wise and experienced person because you really never know what will happen in the future. He presents various scenarios on what will unfold in the future without making predictions with certainty. He only suggests that you put 10% of your investible assets in gold. Why? Because he says that even if he is wrong, you will lose minimal amount of money.

Even though I have more or less come to the same conclusions as the author and believe that what he is saying is probably right, it is possible that the future may unfold differently. Regardless, read this book! It is worth your time and money.

IT was the expression of love, of lust

It's just an old lonely metal. For millennia IT had dominion over the rise and fall of empires, a frequent arbiter between wars' winners and losers. IT was the expression of love, of lust, between lovers, between kings and queens, and is the feared adversary among warriors in conquest.
"Gold is a barbarous relic." "Neanderthal", antediluvian" Gold has no yield..no intrinsic value...not enough gold in the world to support finance...caused the Great Depression.
But wait.
Gold has no maturity risk. Gold has no commodity risk. Gold has no issuer risk. Gold is atomic element number 79 and will not degrade. Gold is physical and not digitally exposed. Gold movements are not subject to government edicts. Gold is a store of value.
In the days of Empire, Rome used mostly gold and silver for money until corruption of the elements became anathema to public acceptance.
In the early twenties the German Weimar Republic ignored gold in its currency expansion as the mark soon became hyperinflated.
In 1931 "The Great Betrayal" caused a wave of panic as the Bank of England defaulted on its obligatory conversion of sterling to gold.
In centuries past China saw the fall of an empire as a copper shortage was reflected in coins with iron substitutes.
The expensive American War of Independence was reflected in gold and silver coins as values declined to zero in just two years because of government currency intervention.
Is gold held by individual citizens at risk of confiscation as happened in 1933 by legislative fiat of the Roosevelt Administration? The author is equivocal on this issue but his words on pages 138 and 139 are worthy of consideration.
In the author's Conclusion he writes "my models on systemic risk in capital markets point toward dire events, including the collapse of the international monetary system..."
Are we to ignore the warnings of one who is an advisor on international economics to the Department of Defense and the U.S. intelligence community?

For those of you not paying attention to macro economics you might want to START NOW! Selling off all rental houses, sold off all normal stocks, have some cash set aside, some physical silver dollars as "emergency money" when the paper money system fails AND most importantly have invested $80K in Jim Rickards "Gold Speculator" program ($2,000/yr) and made 3 times that in just one week as I bought all of his Penny gold mining stocks just 2 days before "Brexit" was voted "YES" just as Jim Rickards predicted DESPITE what the polls and pundits pronounced. His educational background, life story of 2 financial disasters, and his older age/experience, esp. with working with other countries monetary policies as well as "currency war games" done with our Gov. to protect us against China, Russia, etc gives this man an incredible background in predicting the next Great Depression and what to do to both preserve your wealth and even MAKE money as the world markets are crashing.
