Simply Breath Taking!

I love this book! I've read it countless times and it never bores me. Blade and Anna have been connected psychically since Anna was 11 and an attempt was made on her life. Several years later, Anna is still in danger when she and Blade finally meet after another attempt on Anna's life. When they meet its kismet and their romance is ignited. Although Anna has been on the run for years, you do not pity her; rather admire her strength and route for her. Blade is the ultimate hero: loving and gentle with a fierceness to protect what he loves. I travel with my job, and I always bring this book with me. The characters are wonderfully written, the plot is great, and there are moments that just enrapture me. There's a scene where Anna figures out that she's in love with Blade. Every time I read it, I love this scene more.
After reading Blade's Lady, I hunted down her other books Cullen's Bride and Heart of Midnight. They were both well worth the hunt. If you love Linda Howard's Mackenzie books or Suzanne Brockmann's Tall Dark & Dangerous books, you'll adore Fiona Brand's books.

Fiona Brand is on my list of must read authors!!!

I read Marrying McCabe(my personal favorite) and once I did I had to hunt down the others from this series. Blade and Anna have been connected since she was 11 and he was 17. She's been running from her step-father for the last 10 years since he was trying to kill her to collect her inheritance. Blade has had "flashes" and dreams of Anna but has always thought that they were in his mind. Now he's found her and he's determined to keep her but first they have to solve the problem of her step-father. Fiona Branda's books remind me of early Linda Howard(Mackenzies espcecially) They are sensual and fun to read. It's very rare that I find a "new" author that goes right to the top of my favorites list. This book and other from this series are heading right for my keeper shelf and I will be waiting for more by her!!

Excellent Book! An author to watch...

Blade's Lady is one of the best books I've read this year - definitely a keeper. The characters are strong and interesting, and the suspenseful plot keeps the action moving. Anna Tarrant dreamed of a gallant knight for years, never imagining he was real. Blade Lombard heard her desperate cries in his dreams for years, never quite believing they were real. The coming together of these two characters was exciting and realistic. There is a brief appearance by Blade's brother Gray and his wife Samantha, (from Heart of Midnight) and Cullen and Rachel (from Cullen's Bride). If you like Linda Howard's novels, you will LOVE Fiona Brand! I can't think of enough wonderful things to say about her writing!

I read the book for an Anthropology class and compared to the few ethnographies I have read, this is one of my favorites. Even if you are not an aspiring anthropologist like myself, there are still many nuggets of interesting ideas and beautiful stories in Cassaniti's novel. The price was rather pricey for such a small book and a college student, which is why I gave it four stars. Nonetheless, the book is a great and fast read.

Journalist Kaye spent the 2000-01 season with the defending NBA champion Los Angeles Lakers during their up-and-down quest for a repeat title. Coach Phil Jackson's teams are noted for running the Triangle Offense, but what is most evident in following his Lakers is that the Kobe Bryant/ Shaquille O'Neal/Phil Jackson triangle often took on soap-opera proportions. That soap opera is the focus of Kaye's book as she tries to explain how a championship team could implode so quickly in the regular season and then turn things around and come together as a team once again in time for the playoffs. At press time, the season appeared to be following the same story line, and if it ends the same way as last season, the Lakers can truly boast of the dynasty noted in the title of this work. The Los Angeles Lakers won the 2000 NBA championship behind Shaquille O'Neal, Kobe Bryant, and the sage coaching of Phil Jackson. Could they do it again? Yes, but not easily. Author Kaye, whose work has appeared in such publications as Esquire and Rolling Stone, tracks the team's sometimes bumpy road to a repeat championship in 2001. She profiles the individual players and coaches (including the lesser knowns, like basketball gypsy Mike Penberthy); but, more pointedly, she focuses on the ephemeral chemistry that every successful team develops. Phil Jackson comes through as a subtle, clever, and knowing coach, confident enough to retreat to the background when a midseason feud erupted between Shaq and Kobe, the team's foundation. ("Family" spats, Jackson learned during his championship years with the Chicago Bulls, are best allowed to dissipate on their own timeline.) THE AUTHOR OF THIS BOOK HAS NO EXPERIENCE COVERING SPORTS. IN HER FIRST ATTEMPT I THINK SHE DOES A VERY GOOD JOB DESCRIBING THE CHAMPIONSHIP SEASON OF THE 2000 LAKERS. THE DETAILED RELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN THE PLAYERS IS THE HIGHLIGHT OF THIS BOOK. NOT ONLY KOBE AND SHAQ BUT ALL THE OTHER PLAYERS ARE OF INTEREST IN THIS STORY. FROM ROBERY HORRY TO RICK FOX TO PHIL JACKSON, YOU FIND OUT SOMETHING INTERESTING ABOUT EACH ONE OF THEM. BUT THE MAIN STORY IS THE COMING OF AGE OF KOBE FROM A BALL HOG TO A COMPLETE PLAYMAKER AND PASSER. I RECOMMEND THIS FOR ALL BASKETBALL FANS.

Nothing new for real fans

This is a good book for part-time Laker fans. They get to learn a lot about locker room stories.
But if you're someone who regularly follow the Lakers'exploits during the season, on the internet or otherwise, you're not getting any wiser by reading this book. The author was just repeating articles form the LA Times, OCR and other sources. Reading passages in the book you get the feeling that you've already read that somewhere else.
This ain't a David Halberstram book.

I loved Ain't No Tomorrow. I found out things I never knew and not only about the Lakers but players like Allen Iverson and Michael Jordan. It's a great book. There's never been any basketball book like it. Don't miss this one.

Cluster Analysis Crib Sheet

This is not a tutorial on the mathematics of cluster analysis nor does it have sufficient examples or depth of explanation to be used as a text. It is a guide to implementation for someone who has learned this material elsewhere, as I did from Everitt, Landau, Leese and Stahl's Cluster Analysis text.

The book begins with an overview of hierarchical, k-means and two-stage cluster analysis techniques along with the associated terms and concepts. Next is a walkthrough of how to set up a cluster analysis in SPSS and interpret the output. A simple example along with screen shots and tables of results is adequate to demonstrate the process. The book then reviews the corresponding procedures in SAS. It closes with a frequently asked questions section that includes some guidance for readers using R. The reference section is brief, but adequately stocked with books that discuss cluster analysis and related techniques in greater detail.

The author accomplishes the book's objectives well enough to make it worth a reader's time. If you are an SPSS or SAS user just learning to conduct a cluster analysis, this book is a useful addition to your reference shelf.

This third volume is primarily written for senior undergraduate or first-year graduate electrical and computer engineering students. It could also be used for professionals wishing to design or deploy a real-time operating system onto an ARM platform. The first book Embedded Systems: Introduction to the ARM Cortex-M Microcontroller is an introduction to computers and interfacing focusing on assembly language and C programming. The second book Embedded Systems: Real-Time Interfacing to ARM Cortex-M Microcontroller focuses on interfacing and the design of embedded systems. This third book is an advanced book focusing on operating systems, high-speed interfacing, control systems, robotics, and the Internet of Things (IoT). Rather than buying and deploying an existing OS, the focus is on fundamental principles, so readers can write their-own OS. An embedded system is a system that performs a specific task and has a computer embedded inside. A system is comprised of components and interfaces connected together for a common purpose. Specific topics include microcontrollers, design, verification, hardware/software synchronization, interfacing devices to the computer, real-time operating systems, data collection and processing, motor control, analog filters, digital filters, and real-time signal processing. This book employs many approaches to learning. It will not include an exhaustive recapitulation of the information in data sheets. About the Author
Jonathan Valvano has been teaching microcontrollers and embedded systems at the University of Texas at Austin for 33 years. This is his fifth college textbook. His first three textbooks on the Freescale 9S12 have been used at over 18 universities around the world. He earned his BS and MS from MIT in 1977 in the fields of Computer Science and Electrical Engineering. In 1981, he received his PhD from Harvard-MIT in the field of biomedical engineering. He has over 100 journal papers, 9 book chapters and 10 patents in the medical device research area. He is a cofounder of a successful medical device company, specializing in miniature and low-power cardiac measurements. The reason he has received numerous teaching awards at the University of Texas is because he and his students share a common interest at the very core of the education process: the students' own success. "It is difficult to find a professor that tries harder to educate and inspire his students than Professor Valvano" - Robin Tsang.

It's a good book. Cons first since I am giving only ...

It's a good book.

Cons first since I am giving only three stars (changed it to 4 since the author really makes an incredible effort to produce a ton of material):

1. It is directed towards RTOS. However the RTOS focus is rather lacking.
2. All RTOS concepts are explained theoretically. However, there are almost no real complete examples developed.
3. The websites (s) supporting the book also don't contain a lot of RTOS support.

Recommendation on a new version:
Ditch many of the chapters on the ARM concepts. They are all important, but they are already covered in great length in the first two books. I don't see the need to re explain NVIC, UART, USB, GPIO to the great length it is detailed. This is actually pretty good data with many developed projects, and it would be fine to have this if the RTOS focus was more, say at least 3 more chapters detailing an example with tasks, semaphores, you would have to pick a particular RTOS but I think that would be ok, they are all a bit similar. Since RTOS is not fully developed then all the "other" good data seemed to pad the book.

Pros:

There is a ton of data on everything about the cortex M MCU. I mean a ton of data and fully developed projects for all. You name it, and there is a fully developed project with detailed explanations....

This is a great book with some excellent interfacing ideas...

I just wish that there was more meat to the applications instead of just being simple examples...I assume that the author just leaves this to the end user! I think the concepts are great, for example using linked lists to pass in sequential state. The use of FIFOs in communications, but I feel that there is more to be desired in this modern age where good examples seem to be lacking...It is possible they fall under the rankings of IP and that is something a lot of authors seem to stay clear of...

Not a Real-Time OS Book

The author is NOT a software Engineer, he is an EE. (Personal prejudiced, I have not found many EEs that are good at software engineering.) As a result there are plenty of circuit examples, and probably many are useful, but the RTOS information is shallow and incomplete. If the author is going to presume to write about Real-Time Operating Systems, in todays world, he should include some mention of multi-core chips and processor to processor communication. There should be more information about Memory Barrier instructions, and how to use them, than about Maxim chips. More about effectively using the interrupt controller (NVIC) than about digital signal processing. The author stays preliminarily with TI/Luminary Micro ARM products. Not bad, but a limited set. None of these things are bad, in and of themselves, but they are secondary to the title topic - Real-Time Operating Systems for ARM Cortex-M Microcontrollers.

The book is also self-published, presumably to reduce its cost. I don't see it. I have also found that it has numerous typographical errors throughout. This is the second edition, I hope that the author gets a good proofreader before publishing the third edition.

The book may be a fair introduction for the high school student or freshman in college, but it is certainly not sufficient for a true course in Real-Time Operating Systems at any level.

Buy if for reference, if some of the examples are useful. Do not buy it to learn Real-Time Operating Systems.
